A mini-football tournament for journalists was held in Shamakhi to mark the 150th anniversary of Azerbaijan’s national press. Organised by the Sports Research Centre with sponsorship from Avrora Group, the event at Shamakhi Olympic Sports Complex brought together employees of more than 30 media outlets.
In the third-place match of the two-day tournament, Akinchi, representing news agencies and newspapers, faced Ziya, made up of journalists from social and political news websites. Akinchi won 7–3.
In the final, Kaspi, representing television employees, played Kashkul, whose members represented sports websites. After a hard-fought match, Kaspi won 3–1 and lifted the trophy.
Kaspi, Kashkul and Akinchi received gold, silver and bronze medals respectively, while all participants were awarded certificates of honour. Kashkul goalkeeper Kanan Mastaliyev was named best goalkeeper, and Kaspi’s Nurani Isgandarov was named best player. Both received special awards.
At the end of the event, attending members of martyrs’ families received certificates of honour and gifts from main sponsor Avrora Group.
